Following five bilateral funding announcements published within the framework of the German-Egyptian Research Fund GERF (2008, 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2018), the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Egyptian Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority (STDF) agreed to publish a further sixth GERF funding announcement in 2024.
The funding of pilot projects for bilateral research partnerships serves to support young scientists, the expansion of bilateral networks and the increased transfer of technology and knowledge to accelerate innovation processes in Egypt and Germany. The projects should have a high degree of practical relevance and generate findings that lead to new technologies, products and/or services. Conceptually, two financing phases are to be implemented in the period 2025 - 2028. Funding will be provided for collaborative applied research projects that focus on the priority topics of "One Health" and "Green Transition".
The call for funding will be published in the first quarter of 2024. The deadline for submitting applications is expected to be in April 2024.
