5th Inter-Ministerial-Meeting (IMM) between RISTEK and BMBF in Berlin, Germany on June 07th and 08th, 2010

“More than 30 years of S&T between Germany and Indonesia”

The agreement was signed in 1979 and more than 30 years later the international bilateral cooperation is still strongly linked. One such recent example is the cooperation on the Tsunami Early Warning System (TEWS) between the Indonesian Ministry of Research and Technology (RISTEK) and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in collaboration with renowned scientists from research institutions and universities since the catstrophe in 2004.

Furthermore, the bilateral cooperation is fortified by the recently held 5th Inter-Ministerial-Meeting (IMM) between RISTEK and BMBF in Berlin, Germany on June 07th and 08th, 2010. Here, the existing and future programs were discussed in two densely packed days. Besides the program and structural exchange between both delegations, there was also the opportunity to visit such innovative areas like “Adlershof”, the technology park of Berlin or even a park of a different kind – the “Neue Kammern” of Castle Sanssouci.

Besides the IMM, which meets every 2-3 years either in Germany or in Indonesia, there are four Steering Committees which deal with topics such as the already mentioned TEWS, Earth and Ocean Research, most recently with the Geothermal Energy Development and Biotechnology. These Steering Committees meet annually in either country and discuss the progress of the programmes as well as the further collaboration.

Hence the next IMM will take place in 2012 in Indonesia.
