Education for Refugees in Germany – an Overview

A new dossier by the German Education Server informs about refugees and their opportunities to access education.

Many refugees are entering Germany – and this is a challenge to society: education plays a key role in this regard. Education facilitates integration for the immigrants, among them many children and young people. What about the legal situation in Germany, what opportunities exist in different areas of education, what fundamental material and support is available? A new dossier by the German Education Server gives some answers. A systematic and edited overview of online resources is provided.

The comprehensive dossier provides basic information on asylum in Germany and addresses different areas of education (childcare institutions, school legislation in different federal states, instructional material, access to vocational education and higher education, access to employment, youth work with often unaccompanied refugees). One link leads to searching training opportunities on InfoWeb Weiterbildung. An English language dossier has especially been compiled for international users.

The German Education Server (Eduserver) is the central guide to education in Germany. As a service that is jointly offered by the federal government (Bund) and the states (Länder), it is co-ordinated by the German Institute for International Educational Research (DIPF).
