EU-Brazil Technology and Innovation Forum & Tour of Brazil

More than 150 representatives from the public sector, industry, academia and civil society actively participated in the EU-Brazil Technology and Innovation Forum & Tour of Brazil.

The event, - organized by the B.BICE+ project funded by the EU 7th Framework Programme - aimed at promoting EU & Brazil cooperation on ST&I and took place at the occasion of the XXIV ANPROTEC Seminar on Science Parks and Business Incubation - hosted by ANPROTEC. More than 800 participants participated in the official opening of the Science Parks Seminar during which the EU Ambassador in Brazil, Ana Paula Zacarias, pointed out the importance for the EU to cooperate with research and innovation partners in Brazil.

The multiple activities of this event included workshops, Round tables, Bussiness to Business (B2B) encounters involving also 17 EU Member States representatives (Austria, Belgium, Denmark , Finland,  France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway , Portugal, Spain, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, UK). All participants shared information, experiences and best practices on Brazilian and European programmes for research and innovation. Various funding instruments were presented from both Brazilian and European sides paving the way to increased future bottom-up cooperation in the field of Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Management. By the end of the event, participants benefitted from a very dynamic interaction which allowed them even to formulate concrete recommendations for enhancing EU-brazil cooperation on innovation.

Piero Venturi - Head of Research and Innovation Section of EU Delegation to Brazil, Cláudio Ribeiro - Secretary for Science, Technology and Innovation of the State of Pará, and Francilene Garcia - President of ANPROTEC- addressed the audience during the opening of the Tour of Brazil event - held on Tuesday 23rd of September- indicating the importance of EU-Brazil cooperation in all these areas at all levels. The same event gathered 9 EU Member States (Austria, Belgium, France, Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain,  Sweden) represented by their Embassies in Brazil offering a complete overview on Bilateral cooperation programmes targeting Brazilian research and innovation actors. The Ambassador of Romania, Diana Radu, and the Ambassador of Belgium, Jozef Smets, have done the honor to open the Round Table of the Tour of Brazil devoted to EU Member States Bilateral cooperation on innovation with Brazil. Moreover, 112 appointments between 25 European and 22 Brazilian institutions occurred during the B2B meeting session held the same day.

Nicola Ardito - Head of Trade Section of EU Delegation to Brazil – participated in the Joint B.BICE+ / ANPROTEC Plenary Session “Global Connections: Effective Approaches to Development Cooperation in ST&I” sharing with the Brazilian network of Science Parks and Incubators the EU perspective and programmes promoting cooperation on innovation.

Additionally, representatives from the Brazilian government, such as the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the Ministry for Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC) were also participating in the discussions promoted during the Forum.
