European Union extends funding for international fellowship program at Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies

The Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) has secured 2.4 million euros in funding for a international fellowship programme from the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions program for the period 2018 to 2022.

The European Commission created the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions as a means of increasing mobility for researchers in Europe by awarding fellowships. With the FRIAS COFUND Fellowship Programme (FCFP) about 25 incoming or reintegration fellows per year (juniors and seniors) from all disciplines are given the opportunity of spending three to twelve months working on their own research project at FRIAS.

The call for the academic year 2017/18 closed on September 15, 2016. Successful applicants will conduct their fellowship between September 2017 and September 2018. The next call for the Academic Year 2018/19 will be issued in summer 2017, the expected deadline is September 2017.

FRIAS already submitted a convincing application in the competition for the first round of the program from 2014 to 2018, enabling it to strengthen its international fellowship program FCFP with European funding. It was by no means a foregone conclusion that FRIAS would be successful again: The success rate for applications to the COFUND program in the second round was hardly more than 20 percent.
