Since its opening on February 19, 2010, the GCRI has been a catalyst for collaboration between Germany and the United States in science and industry. GCRI’s regularly-scheduled events and monthly newsletters feature Germany as a land of ideas, know-how, and innovation. Top researchers and practitioners, including Nobel Prize Laureates Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ketterle and Dr. Bert Sakmann, discussed a variety of topics, including the creation of new forms of matter, brain mapping, and entrepreneurship.
GCRI events not only strengthen transatlantic scientific, business and educational networks, they also encourage individual scientists, scholars, and organizations to explore solutions to global problems in an interdisciplinary environment; and educate U.S. graduate students and other young researchers about: 1) opportunities for international research collaboration with German institutions; and 2) research and funding opportunities in Germany.
Upcoming events will include:
- A German-American Efficiency Roundtable in Boston, MA; in collaboration with the German American Chambers of Commerce (March 7)
- A panel on “Tuberculosis: A Neglected Pandemic,” in cooperation with the Max Planck Florida Institute, featuring leading experts from the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, Berlin, Germany, the Weill Cornell Medical College and the Global Alliance for TB Drug Development (March 31)
- A keynote address by GCRI Director Dr. Joann Halpern on “Transatlantic Perspectives on Emerging Technology Management” at the Hannover Messe (April 7)
- A nanotechnology workshop, panel discussion and art exhibit, in collaboration with the Center for Nanointegration Duisburg-Essen (CeNIDE) and the Consortium of the Ruhr Universities (ConRuhr) (April 13)
