The German Center for Research and Innovation (GCRI) is proud to announce the release of its fifth annual report. Since its launch in 2010, the center has become a prominent facilitator of German-North American scientific and technological exchange, thanks to its diverse network and wide range of events. Increasingly, it is becoming a key resource for representatives from science, industry, and government interested in developing sustainable collaborations among corporations, educational institutions, and other centers of innovation in the U.S., Canada, and Germany. The number of requests for information about contacts, funding opportunities, collaborations, and scientific placements in German research institutions has grown substantially in recent years. In 2014, GCRI events continued to address the critical challenges of the 21st century, which include climate and energy, health and nutrition, mobility, security, and communication. GCRI has also led the transatlantic dialogue in areas such as entrepreneurship, higher education, manufacturing, and workforce development.
This annual report explores key topics impacting society today with articles ranging from “The Common Language of Science” and “Planning for 2050: Creating Smart Cities of the Future” to “e-Health: Delivering Better Care to Those Who Need It Most.” Throughout 2015-16, GCRI will continue to pursue the goal of enhancing the perception of Germany as a world leader in innovation by facilitating discussion, debate, and collaboration among key constituents in North America and Germany. The 2015 areas of focus include ethics in science, e-health, aging, and robotics/artificial intelligence. In 2016, the GCRI will remain focused on AI/robotics, but also steer attention to the areas of neuroscience, Big Data, and smart sustainable cities. In so doing, GCRI will continue to facilitate dialogue on issues and topics of critical importance to the world in which we live.
