In its first two years of operation, GCRI has significantly enhanced the visibility of the German research and innovation landscape in North America, leading to new collaborative projects, investments in German technology, and an enhanced media presence for Germany in North America.
Over 70% of GCRI’s activities concentrated on the areas of climate and energy, health and nutrition, mobility, security, and communication. These activities involved panel discussions, symposia, exhibitions, conferences, and poster sessions. Highlights included a nanotechnology panel discussion and NanoArt exhibition which has been showcased around the world, a discussion on tuberculosis with leading expert Prof. Stefan Kauffmann, and presentations on the aging brain by Prof. Ursula Staudinger and Nobel Prize Laureate Prof. Eric Kandel. In addition to hosting 26 events in 2011, GCRI participated in 21 conferences and symposia in Germany, the U.S. and Canada.
