German-Chilean Project held Management of Disasters Seminar, TUL-Industry and Smart Security Workshops in Germany

From May 12th to 20th, the German-Chilean Project PRASEDEC (Practice-driven Advance of Studies and Exchange between the University of Duisburg-Essen and the University of Chile) organised scientific seminars, visits to industries and an international fair in Frankfurt, Duisburg and Hannover.

The second event of PRASEDEC was a great opportunity for Chilean and German partners to work on the project themes and go forward on cooperation opportunities with praxis partners. The dynamic agenda began with the Management of Disasters Seminar organized by Prof. Soeffker with experts from KSG-GFS, DLR (German Aerospace Center) and DFS (German air traffic control). In this seminar the participants learnt to analyze the relation between knowledge, measurements, behavior, planning and based on this structure to understand the human interaction with the environment in order to optimize the behavior of individuals and organizations.

At the TUL-Industry Workshop, the group was welcomed by Mrs Visarius from DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service). On this event organized by Prof. Noche, different presentations addressing the complexity of international supply chains and technologies for their modeling and optimization were presented by project partners like Chile Wein Contor and SDZ GmbH. The group visited ThyssenKrupp and DIALGistik in duisport, where the project partners presented themselves as well as facilities and possibilities for collaborations like student exchange programs were discussed.

The agenda continued with a visit to the international fair CEMAT in Hannover, before heading to Frankfurt where Prof. Weis welcomed the group for the Smart Security Workshop. Experiences and interests on security and safety of public infrastructure were exchanged in order to identify possible joined research projects.

About the project

The PRASEDEC-Project (Practice-driven Advance of Studies and Exchange between the University of Duisburg-Essen and the University of Chile) is a development cooperation under the University-Business-Partnership Programme of the German Academic Exchange Service, sponsored with resources of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), running from 2013 to year 2016. On the project a group of professors from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) and the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of the University of Chile (UCH) work together. The project brings together expertise of different departments from both faculties such as the departments of Transport Systems and Logistics, Business Administration and Operations Management, Computer Graphics, Image Processing and Scientific Computing, Dynamics and Control and Distributed Systems of UDE together with the departments of Computer Science, Industrial Engineering and Information Systems of UCH.
