"Germany’s rising stars step into the limelight at RSNA," science writer Philip Ward put it on AuntMinnie.com and AuntMinnieEurope.com. For the second year running, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) featured the latest medical imaging innovations at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 99th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting Dec. 1-6 in Chicago. "Our presence showed that Germany is a top international player in science, technology and innovation. Germany is a land of ideas, creating business opportunities and solving tomorrow’s global challenges, especially in the field of medical technologies," commented Dr. Christian Brecht, German Consul General in Chicago.
At RSNA 2013, 50.000 participants and 10.000 international exhibitors met to present and discuss latest innovations in medical imaging. Under the umbrella of the international marketing initiative "Research in Germany – Land of Ideas" more than 30 med-tech experts from renowned scientific clusters exhibited at the German pavilion. Eight research networks, institutions and companies, among them the clusters 3-D Imaging in Medicine, BioNanoMedTech and Quantitative Imaging in Oncology (QUINO), took advantage of the 90-sq-m booth of the BMBF that was prominently positioned in South Building, Hall A, at Lake Side Center on McCormick Place. The networks showcased their innovative developments and socialized with radiological and medical imaging professionals from all over the world.
The booth’s convenient location attracted a large number of journalists and visitors. On day three of the congress, the German Consul General in Chicago, Dr. Christian Brecht, held intensive talks with med-tech professionals at the German pavilion. In the evening of the same day nearly 100 professionals from German research clusters and Chicago based companies met at the romantic Chicago Christkindlmarket for a networking reception on invitation of the BMBF in cooperation with the German American Chamber of Commerce. A video shoot with the German delegation completed the efforts of the BMBF to put the spotlight on Germany’s med-tech experts in science, research and development.
Supporting these international, multidisciplinary med-tech clusters, the BMBF fosters international R&D cooperation and medical imaging innovation. "The ministry’s campaign "Germany – Partner for Medical Technology" is building bridges between the hot spots in the US, Brazil, Japan, China and our German partners," Dr. Kurt Höller, coordinator of the R&D-network 3-D Imaging in Medicine commented.
In February 2014, the BMBF will host the "MedTech Partners Conference" in Erlangen, Bavaria, where all networks participating in "Germany – Partner for Medical Technology" will present their success stories. This closing event of the international BMBF-campaign on medical technology is embedded in a series of events starting on February 17th with a symposium on Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) technologies hosted by WAGAS EMN (www.wagas-emn.de) followed by the "Medical Valley Summit" (www.medical-valley-emn.de) on February 18th .

Campaign “Germany – Partner for Medical Technology”
As a consequence of its established top-level research and the innovative strength of its med-tech industry, Germany holds a leading position in Medical Technology. Between 5 and 20 percent of all scientific publications related to Medical Technology – depending on the topic they are dealing with – come from Germany. Within the framework of its international marketing campaign "Germany – Partner for Medical Technology" the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) promotes research and development in the area of key technologies and supports the establishment of international R&D cooperation worldwide. The initiative is part of the international federal campaign "Research in Germany – Land of Ideas".
