Six professionals were selected and trained to work in the states of Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Telangana, Tripura, and West Bengal.
The current batch of professionals is the fourth to be trained, mentored and placed with state governments under the GIZ RSBY (Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana) Professional Programme run by IGSSP since 2012. The Programme supports state governments implementing India’s national health protection programme by providing key technical training and knowledge to the professionals. The professionals work within the states’ administrative structures to augment their limited resources of skilled personnel. They bring in domain expertise in health insurance after undergoing training by GIZ technical experts.
The Professional Programme is designed in a manner that at the end of a fixed period of consultancy the state governments take the consultants on board as staff. Consequently the Programme provides immediate technical support to the states for implementation of the health protection programme, as well as helps in long-term enhancement of skills within the government.
The IGSSP supports the Indian government in implementing the Unorganised Workers’ Social Security Act, in order to improve the social security system for workers in the unorganised sector and their families. The Programme provides policy advice and technical support to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare to improve the design and implementation of India’s national health insurance Programme.
