The strategies around these “research alumni” are to focus on the following questions: How can guest researchers already be gained as multipliers during their research stay, and how can their expertise be used to internationalise universities? How can a lasting bond between them and their former host universities in Germany be achieved? The Foundation is also seeking innovative ideas for ways to maintain and utilise contacts to research alumni in the long term.
The ten best “research alumni strategies” will be selected from the submitted suggestions, and funding of up to 30,000 EUR in each case will be made available to implement their ideas. Eligible to apply are universities in Germany that host international guest researchers. The application deadline is 23 May 2013. The sponsorship programme includes a networking conference with guest researchers at the funded universities, which will be organised by the Humboldt Foundation and held in Berlin from 27 to 29 November 2013.
The sponsorship programme is intended to run until the end of 2014, allowing a total of up to twenty universities to receive funding and research alumni programmes to be established on a broad basis. In previous years, the Foundation has awarded six universities 130,000 EUR each as pioneers in the development of research alumni programmes.
The sponsorship programme is part of the “International Research Marketing” project and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
