The agreement was signed by Mr. A.K. Mehta, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) MoEFCC and Dr. Wolfgang Hannig, Country Director, GIZ India, in the presence of Ms. S Dorasil, Counsellor / Head of Department (Economic Cooperation and Development) from the German Embassy.
The SEIP project, supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, aims to offer exemplary support to private and public stakeholders to jointly implement strategies for efficient, environment-friendly, and climate-friendly industrial infrastructure development. The duration will be three years and the German contribution to the project is up to EUR 5,000,000 (approx. 37 Crores INR).
Speaking at the occasion, Mr. A.K. Mehta, Joint Secretary, MoEFCC said that the SEIP is an excellent project and that he is very confident about the outcomes from this project. He also added that the project locations are appropriate and need considerable attention, especially for improving environment management and industrial production.
Dr. Wolfgang Hannig, Country Director, GIZ India also added that GIZ is extremely happy to support this project, especially which contributes to environment and climate change. Ms. S. Dorasil, Counsellor/Head of Department (Economic Cooperation and Development) also acknowledged the valuable contribution under the Indo-German development cooperation.
The SEIP project will be implemented in Delhi, Haridwar (Uttarakhand), and Vapi (Gujarat) with scope for replication, and will focus on industrial waste water and solid waste management. The project aims to showcase solutions to reduce acute environmental pollution and improve resource efficiency in industrial production. It will closely cooperate with private stakeholders such as industry associations, operators of industrial sites and companies, and relevant entities in the States and at the Centre. At the national and state level, SEIP will support the creation of an enabling framework by suggesting measures regarding new policies, plans, and support programmes to prevent and reduce pollution and improve resource efficiency in industrial zones. Activities will especially focus on development of solutions for effluent treatment systems, conveyance systems, recycle/reuse and waste management, monitoring, and process modification. It will also offer training, skill development and capacity development for the relevant stakeholders including private sector stakeholders as well as respective public entities in the States and Centre.
The SEIP project is expected to demonstrate solutions resulting in positive impacts and improved environmental conditions at the selected sites. The successful cases will serve as models that can subsequently be taken up on much larger scales.
