The ranking reflects the attractiveness of German research institutions for foreign scientists: Humboldt fellows and awardees choose their host institutions for themselves and decide on quality and international visibility. In 2011 and 2012, three Humboldt fellows and one Humboldt awardee have been working for INM – Leibniz Institute for New Materials.
Apart from INM, the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (IPF) and the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden are also listed among the first 20.
INM is focused on the research and development of materials – for today, tomorrow and the future. Chemists, physicists, biologists, materials and engineering scientists shape the work at INM. From molecule to pilot production, they follow the recurring questions: Which material properties are new, how can they be investigated and how can they be used in the future?
Its main research fields are Chemical Nanotechnology, Interface Materials, and Materials in Biology.
