Research in Germany together with European Research and Funding Organisations at SEOUL ICM 2014 and MENAO

The initiative “Research in Germany”, represented amongst others by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation), and science organisations from the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom jointly present research and funding opportunities in Europe at this year’s International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) and the previous Mathematics in Emerging Nations: Achievements and Opportunities Symposium (MENAO) in Seoul. From 12 August to 20 August representatives and researchers from the respective organisations and countries provide information at a joint booth entitled “Research in Europe” and during several special events.

Held once every four years under the auspices of the International Mathematical Union (IMU), the ICM as the world’s largest meeting in the international mathematics community attracts mathematicians from all branches and all over the world. At this year’s ICM, hosted in the South Korean capital, the attendance of researchers from developing countries is especially supported. This is also demonstrated in the previous MENAO Symposium.

The initiative “Research in Germany” – represented by the DFG, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Fraunhofer Society – presents mathematical research and funding opportunities in Germany. The collective performance with the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), the Instituto de Ciencias Matemáticas (ICMAT) and the Engineering and Physical Science Council (EPSRC) promotes national institutions and programmes while also illustrating general chances of doing research in Europe.

Early career and senior researchers have the chance to meet scientists and programme managers of the respective countries and organisations. They are kindly invited to ask individual questions on research projects, cooperation possibilities, and national research funding activities. Interested scientists are also invited to attend the following information and networking events:
