The German Excellence Initiative as an Instrument to Further University-Industry Collaboration

Prof. Dr. Horst Hippler, President of the German Rectors’ Conference, and Ann Rosenberg, Vice President and Head of Global SAP University Alliances and SAP Next-Gen Consulting, will discuss the impact of university-industry partnerships at the German Center for Research and Innovation New York on September 7, 2016.

Around the globe, university-industry collaboration is increasingly becoming a central element in the strategic development of many successful organizations and institutions. Germany, for example, is known worldwide for its successful system of dual education and vocational training as well as its initiatives for bringing university research to the marketplace.

The Excellence Initiative, which was approved by the German federal and state governments in 2005, became an important instrument to further cooperation between academia and industry. With the goal of promoting top-level research and improving the quality of German universities and research institutions, the Excellence Initiative has made Germany a more attractive research location, internationally more competitive, and drawn growing attention to Germany’s academic and scientific communities.

On September 7, 2016, at the German Center for Research and Innovation New York, Prof. Dr. Horst Hippler will address the Excellence Initiative from the perspective of the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK), the umbrella organization of the German universities and universities of applied sciences. Ann Rosenberg, Vice President and Head of Global SAP University Alliances and SAP Next-Gen Consulting, will speak about how SAP University Alliances strengthens ties between academia and industry through the SAP Education Network for Digital Transformation and SAP Next-Gen Consulting.
