Workshop on International Research Marketing and Research Communication

“International research marketing” can be understood as a concept with the goal to sharpen the image of one´s national research landscape and enhance its visibility abroad, in order to achieve other objectives which are embedded for instance in internationalization strategies of a country or the European Commission.

The broadness of the global scientific landscape and its excellence hold a huge potential for European research. To tap this potential, the aim of a workshop organised by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is to show up best practice research marketing activities of Member States and the EU (e.g. Euraxess) and to discuss the possibilities of a common European approach in order to strengthen the image of the European science landscape abroad – supporting on the one hand national efforts in research marketing and on the other going beyond national activities by identifying where joint efforts could create added value.

With “Destination Europe” – an initiative born within the Strategic Forum for International S&T Cooperation (SFIC) in cooperation with the European Commission – a first step in this direction has been taken: the initiative targets researchers of all levels of seniority within the USA and promotes career opportunities within Europe. On national level, the BMBF implements research marketing with its initiative “Research in Germany” (RiG), as do other EU Member States with national promotion and branding activities (Team Finland, Innovation Centre Denmark and others).

The workshop will look at those activities to try to develop a common European approach. It will be held on December 9 in Brussels (on invitation only).
