World’s most talented mathematicians and computer scientists meet in Heidelberg

This September, recipients of the Abel Prize, ACM A.M. Turing Award, ACM Prize in Computing, Fields Medal, and the Nevanlinna Prize are invited to gather in Heidelberg to meet with 200 young researchers from all over the world at the 6th Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF). In order to reach a broader, more international audience, the Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation (HLFF) provides 15 travel grants for journalists to cover the event.

The 6th HLF will take place from September 23-28, 2018 and offers selected group of young researchers in mathematics and computer science the chance to meet the preeminent scientists in their fields for one week of cross-generational, scientific dialogue. What distinguishes the HLF from traditional scientific conferences is the atmosphere that inspires a blend of acute scientific discussions and informal interactions among the participants. Lectures, workshops and panel discussions embolden scientifically driven debate, while various social events encourage the participants to pursue their discourse outside the lecture halls and to get to know each other.

Embedded once again into the program is the Hot Topic session, which centers on a theme that is highly consequential, not only for science, but society at large. At the 6th HLF, a panel of experts from various specializations will discuss blockchain technologies, the potential of cryptocurrencies and future impact of the secure distributed ledger.

15 travel grants for journalists

Grants cover travel costs as well as board and accommodation during the stay in Heidelberg (starting with a media-get-together on the evening of September 22).

Until May 15, 2018, journalists from all over the world are invited to apply, irrespective of their media affiliation (print, TV, online, radio).
