The Ministry of Education has existed in Suriname since 1948, for some time under the name Ministry of Education and Community Development (MINOV) and for some time under the name Ministry of Education and Science (MINOW). The Education System of Suriname is centralized and coordinated, guided and regulated by the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (MinOWC). This ministry is made up of directorates that are subdivided into main departments headed by a deputy director.
