The Tanzania Academy of Sciences (TAAS) is an institution/society of distinguished scholars and scientists. It is a non-political, non-sectarian, non-profit making national body of learned and men and women in physical, natural and social sciences and technologies: Persons distinguished in their own rights and interested in the promotion, advancement and application of Science and Technology for human development.
The primary objective of TAAS is to cooperate and collaborate with the government, other scientific organizations and the general public in the promotion, advancement and scholarly application of all aspects of science and technology for the socio-economic development of Tanzania.
The Academy aims to:
- Promote high quality and effective teaching, readership, learning, research and application of science, technology and innovation for national socio-economic development and improvement of people’s living and working conditions
- Provide a forum for scientists, technologists, industrialists, law and policy makers and the general public to discuss issues pertaining to science and technology in relation to human and national development
- Collaborate with the government and relevant national and international bodies in developing appropriate policies to address issues of STI,
- Promote the publication, exchange and dissemination of scientific knowledge and research findings.
