The National Science Technology and Innovation Policy Office (STI Office) was established in 2008 as an autonomous public agency to implement the policy set forth by the National Council of Research and Innovation Policy which is chaired by the Prime Minister.
- The mission of the STI Office is to formulate strategic policies and frameworks for STI and carry out the policy deployment by working with stakeholders (government agencies, academic and research institutes and industry) in order to achieve the goals set forth in the policy framework.
- The Office also facilitates academic, research and development collaboration among government agencies, academic institutes, research organizations and industry within and outside Thailand in order to enhance human resource development, technology management and transfer, and innovation capability of the nation.
- Thailand Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (THAIST) was founded under the STI Office to specifically carry out the human resource capacity building in coordination with academic and research institutes in Thailand and from overseas.
The STI Office is operated with a competent team of 84 staff, and an annual budget of approximately 500 million Baht (as of 2015).
