The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) is a research institution under the Government of Vietnam.
Its earliest predecessor was established in 1953 as the History-Geography-Literature Research Department. Throughout more than 60 years of development, the Academy has changed its name several times. Since February 22, 2013, it has been officially called the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, with its headquarters located in Hanoi, Vietnam.
VASS research institutes are grouped together in so called member units covering
- Social Sciences
- Human Sciences
- International and Regional Studies (e.g. Institute for European Studies, Institute for Southeast Asian Studies).
Since its establishment, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences has always placed great emphasis on developing and strengthening relationships and collaboration with international institutions in order to enhance the quality and effectiveness in implementing VASS’s functions.
