Last week of December 2013 Skoltech submitted an international patent application to the Russian Federal Service of Intellectual Property (Rospatent). This marks an important step towards creation and commercialization of intellectual property at the university.
The application is based on the scientific results achieved by one of the Skoltech Innovation Program teams. The team invented a new nano porous material with ultra low-k, which might be of great demand in high frequency electronic production. The Knowledge Transfer Office provided critical support in preparing the document for submission.
After the submission Skoltech will have 30 months to make decision about patenting the invention in other countries. During this period Skoltech will be able to investigate market opportunities, negotiate licensing requirements with potential license- holders, and advance the technology if necessary.
Skoltech already signed sample material transfer agreement with one international large-scale company. This signifies high technology potential and good chances for the invention commercialization.
