While R&I cooperation with China poses clear challenges to the EU, it also holds many opportunities. Considering the lack of understanding of contemporary China, its academic system and goals, it is important that the EU does not miss out on these potential benefits and identifies potential opportunities in cooperating with China.
The objective of this paper authored by Technopolis Group in the framework of the “EU R&I Knowledge Network on China” | Service Facility in Support of the Strategic Development of International Cooperation in Research and Innovation (N°30-CE-0838742/00-87) is thus to provide a snapshot of possible benefits of R&I cooperation with China, in quantitative and qualitative terms from an EU perspective. Benefits from R&I cooperation can have various dimensions and affect various stakeholders. This study distinguishes between benefits on five levels: individual researchers, research institutes, companies, systems, and global goals.
