In the future, biological control of soil-borne fungal or bacterial pathogens will be of increasing importance for a more sustainable agriculture. This approach would be an environmentally friendly alternative to the use of chemical fungicides. The workshop "Microbial Ecology and Application of Inoculants in Biocontrol" will be an attempt at bringing together the expertise of two countries engaged in use of biocontrol agents for sustainable agriculture. The interactions would generate insights and understanding of two different agricultural conditions. Tropical and termperate and help in formulating strategies for application and study of biocontrol agents and their ecology in relativ to native populations in this situations.
Lectures delivered by experts will be encompassing all the aspects like molecular techniques in tracking andstudying the community profiles, mass production of biological contral agents, formulations and secondary metabilites, testing and field application, policies and regulations applicable to the use of BCA in Europe and India. It is envisaged that at the end of the workshop long-term bilateral reserach proposals and feasibility of student exchange for conducting a part of their doctoral program will manifest.
