Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) is a programme initiated by the Government of India which seeks to invite distinguished academicians, entrepreneurs, scientists, experts from premier institutions from across the world, to teach in the higher educational institutions in India. Under this programme, the international faculty would conduct one to two week course at an Indian institution. The upper limit of overall expenditure allowed for each such course is $8000 for a 12-14 hours course and $12000 for a 20-28 hours course.
Foreign faculty/experts from academic Institution, research organisation and Industry are welcome to participate in the GIAN program. They can either submit a course proposal in the format/template which is available on the website or send their expression of interest to take part as International faculty to the National Coordinator, GIAN (gian(at)iitkgp.ac.in).
Till 30th November, 2016, 784 courses from 38 countries have been approved by the Apex Committee. Out of these, nearly 388 courses have already been organized. All courses are video recorded and some of them live webcast depending on the available infrastructure. This enables others to view the content later through the local and national GIAN portal and the National Digital Library.
Under Phase II of the programme, online submissions of proposals will remain open upto 28th February, 2017 for approval of courses upto December 2017.
