The National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) was established by the Cabinet Resolution on September 16, 1986 as a project under the Office of the Permanent-Secretary of the then Ministry of Science and Technology. Its main objective is to support research and development in metals and materials, which are instrumental in the growth of the industrial sector and the overall development of the country. On December 29, 1991, it was merged into the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) in the Ministry of Science and Technology. It is one of the new public establishments set up with a view to providing flexibility in operation.
