The European Commission is organising the "Conference on Points of Single Contact: working towards a single digital gateway for Europe" to discuss the state of play and possible future for the Points of Single Contact.
The Points of Single Contact (PSC) are a very visible and concrete innovation of the Services Directive (2006/123/EC). Points of Single Contact (PSCs) bring the benefits of e-government to entrepreneurs. They provide them with comprehensive information on applicable requirements and allow them to complete administrative procedures online, be it in their own country or in any other EU Member State. They simplify the setting up and expansion of businesses in the Single Market.
PSCs are now up and running in all Member States. However, they do not yet live up to their full potential. The European Commission has agreed with the Member States a "PSC Charter" which sets out criteria for well-functioning and business-friendly PSC portals. The conference aims to take stock of the Points of Single Contact (including their compliance with the PSC Charter) and to look ahead together with business representatives and Member States at the possible future for the Points of Single Contact.
