General Safety and Pedestrian Safety Stakeholder meetings

Stakeholder meetings will be organized on 27 and 28 October 2014 in the field of Vehicle Occupant Safety and Protection of Vulnerable Road Users.

The European Commission (DG Enterprise and Industry, Sustainable Mobility and Automotive Industry Unit) has commissioned a study to TRL (Transport Research Laboratory of the UK) on the Benefit and Feasibility of a Range of New Technologies and Unregulated Measures in the fields of Vehicle Occupant Safety and Protection of Vulnerable Road Users. The study is gathering information on the likely feasibility, costs and benefits of over 50 potential measures that could be considered for incorporation in the next phase of the General Safety Regulation and the Pedestrian Safety legislation.

As part of the evidence gathering and review, for the purpose of finalising the reporting for the European Parliament and the Council, a series of stakeholder meetings will be held on 27 and 28 October.

In order to cover the large number of measures the stakeholder meetings will be organised in two parallel sessions. Potential measures have been grouped by theme:

• Active Safety
• Car Occupants and Pedestrians
• Crashworthiness
• Driver Interface and Distraction
• Fuel Systems
• HGV Safety
• Intelligent Transport Systems

The General Safety Regulation and Pedestrian Safety 'way forward' study is primarily focussed on collating and reviewing the available evidence. Where up-to-date cost-benefit information is not readily available from literature or other sources, they must be estimated in order to assess the likely cost-benefit or breakeven cost, taking into account available target population data, effectiveness estimates and reliable cost data provided by the relevant stakeholders as part of the study and meetings.

To register for the meeting, please contact TRL at gsr(at)trl.co.uk.
