Northern Research Institute (Norut) is a national research group located in northern Norway. Norut has research activities within technology, innovation and social science research and carries out research commissions for industry, business and the public sector. The institute has a special focus on the High North.

Northern Research Institute is located in Tromsø, Narvik and Alta in northern Norway. The Norut Group consist of the following institutes:
- Norut Alta - Áltá
- Norut Tromsø
- Norut Narvik
- Norinnova
Norut's history goes back to 1984. The group function is ensured by Norut Tromsø.
