Portugal will strengthen scientific cooperation with Poland
Authorities of Portuguese technical universities will strengthen their scientific cooperation with their Polish counterparts. Last week, the two parties signed a cooperation agreement in Lisbon.
Polish Ambassador in Lisbon Bronisław Misztal told that already last year Poland and Portugal pre-agreed on the principles of strengthening scientific cooperation between Polish and Portuguese technical universities.
The forms of this co-operation were discussed in Portugal by 42 rectors of higher Polish technical universities. Head of the Polish group during the talks was Prof. Tadeusz Więckowski, Rector of Wrocław University of Technology, and the Portuguese group - Prof. Joaquim Mourato, who heads the Portuguese Polytechnics Coordinating Council (CCISP).
"The three-day conference series in Portugal is part of the implementation of the last provisions of the cooperation agreement between the Conference of Rectors of Polish Technical Universities (KRPUT) and the Portuguese Polytechnics Coordinating Council, signed last year in Opole. The subjects of the document include the exchange of scientists in advanced technology programs and plans to introduce double diplomas" - added Misztal.
"An important element of the agreement is creating conditions to initiate relationships between Polish and Portuguese science and industry in order to finance research" - explained the ambassador.
According to the diplomat, both parties declared their willingness to further cooperation in the field of research and joint development of centres of excellence.
"Talks have also started on closer cooperation between the Iberian Nanotechnology Institute in Braga and nanotechnology department of Wrocław University of Technology" - added Misztal.
The series of conferences with the participation of Polish technical universities rectors is organised, among others, at polytechnics in Viana do Castelo and Leiria, as well as at the University of Porto. In Viana do Castelo, Polish rectors also met with the authorities of the Union of Towns of Northern Portugal.
Meeting of Polish and Portuguese rectors in the residence of the Polish ambassador in Lisbon was attended by the Minister of Education Nuno Crato.
