The cooperation between the European Union (EU) and the countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) in the fields of research, technology and innovation is of utmost importance for the political, economic and social development of both regions. In order to make optimum use of existing academic potentials and to prepare the ground for a joint transfer of academic results to worldwide markets there is a strong bi-regional interest in enhancing international cooperation. In this context, it is essential to give policy stakeholders and decision makers from the scientific community the chance to exchange their visions on perspectives, strengths and challenges of international cooperation and to define common strategies. Such dialogue processes are - amongst others - being promoted through cooperation projects within the 7th Framework Programme, e.g. the IncoNETs. The project ‘S&T International Cooperation Network for Central Asian and South Caucasus Countries’ (IncoNet CA/SC) contributes significantly to this dialogue. A central event supported by the project is the so-called Policy Stakeholders’ Conference -Evaluation approaches in S&T policy making: sharing good practices-, which will be held in Astana on 26-27 May 2011 upon invitation of the Kazakh Ministry of Industry and New Technologies. Decision makers and experts at ministerial level as well as key persons from research and science organisations in EU- and EECA-countries are invited to this exchange that should trigger a new momentum for cooperation.
