The Future of Science Communication Conference (FSCC) brings together researchers and practitioners of science communication. To continue this discussion and actively involve the European science communication community, policymakers, and other relevant stakeholders, Wissenschaft im Dialog and ALLEA (All European Academies) are organising a one-day event in Brussels on 26 April 2022. Building on the interim results and identified problems of the 2021 FSCC, the follow-up event will develop impulses and solutions for a strategic and institutional (re-)orientation of science communication in Europe.
The focus will be on impact, dealing with fake news, disinformation, and conspiracy myths, communicating global challenges, as well as the institutional structures of science communication in Europe. The current state of research and practical experience as well as the political perspective will be presented and discussed in an interdisciplinary manner.
The event is going to take place in person in Brussels (exact location tbc). The organisers are looking forward to a live experience provided that the coronavirus pandemic-situation allows a safe experience for all attendees. Otherwise the event will be hosted as a hybrid-/online-format.
- Impulses: Introductory keynotes will set impulses for the conference. They will introduce political, practical, and scientific perspectives on science communication, review previous discussions, and look ahead to the goals of the conference.
- Workshops: Parallel workshops will provide a space to identify and debate the most pressing questions from researchers and practitioners within the science communication community. The focus will be on the transfer between research and practice of science communication, as well as the development of policy recommendations for European stakeholders.
- Panel Discussion: In an evening panel discussion, representatives of European science communication institutions will discuss with stakeholders, researchers, and political actors how science communication in Europe can be positioned more strategically. Ideas and results from the preceding workshops will form the basis of the discussion together with the results from the FSCC. The panel discussion will be broadcasted live.
