The OECD Education Spotlight "Opening knowledge through education and science" focussing on how openness has always been at the core of science and education: after all, their purpose is to generate knowledge and make it widely available to as many people as possible. The unprecedented connectivity afforded by digital technology is providing new means for this old mission. Knowledge is a force for economic, social and cultural progress, and academic institutions are exploring new ways to engage researchers, learners, educators and the wider society in producing, sharing, using and adapting knowledge for the common good.

OECD Education Spotlights is a series by the OECD-Directorate for Education and Skills analysing content on education from a global perspective and in relation to global megatrends, academic research and concrete policy examples to support strategic thinking in education.
