Australia’s Chief Scientist provides high-level independent advice to the Prime Minister and other Ministers on matters relating to science, technology and innovation.
He or she also holds the position of Executive Officer of the Commonwealth Science Council. The Commonwealth Science Council connects the leaders of the academic and business communities, including the Chief Scientist, to the Prime Minister and relevant senior ministers. It advises on the ways that science, research and innovation can contribute to productivity, health and wellbeing and sets priorities for research.
He or she also holds position of Deputy Chair of Innovation and Science Australia (ISA), an independent statutory body.
