Universities New Zealand (UNZ) is the peak body for New Zealand's eight universities. It was established under the Education Act 1961 as the New Zealand Vice-Chancellors’ Committee. Since 2010 it has operated as Universities New Zealand, a statutory body under the Education Act. The functions of UNZ are to ensure universities deliver high-quality education through robust quality assurance systems, to co-ordinate international education policy, to provide sector coordination, to inform and influence decision-making, and to administer scholarships.
