The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) is charged with three main missions aiming at promoting the Taiwanese overall science and technology system: promotion and funding of academic research, development of science and technology, and science parks.
The NSTC was established as a ministry-level council in summer 2022, pursuant to the Act for Adjustment of Functions and Organizations of the Executive Yuan, by transforming the former Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and incorporating the Board of Science and Technology. As compared to MOST, the NSTC has a larger inter-ministerial role in the strengthening coordination, and integrating the government’s technology policy across multiple departments.
