Digitalisation is not only an additional challenge, but also an effective means to address key challenges for higher education in the 21st century. The White Paper Bologna Digital 2020 on Digitalisation in the European Higher Education Are (EHEA) highlights opportunities and challenges as well as examples of good practice.
The publication focuses on prospective developments in six focus areas:
- More Proactive Preparation, Admission and Transition
- Skills for the Digital Age
- New Mobility Patterns: Virtual Exchange and Blended Mobility
- Recognition of (Prior) Learning
- Quality Assurance
- Strategies for Teaching and Learning in the Digital Age
For each area the authors name important opportunities and challenges that digitalisation brings to this specific field of higher education. In addition, each section is complemented by a list of examples of good practice that have been provided by the experts and stakeholder organisations.
The White Paper was published by the Hochschulforum Digitalisierung (HFD). The HFD orchestrates the discourse on higher education in the digital age. As an innovation driver, it informs, advises and connects stakeholders from higher education institutions, politics, business and civil society.
Founded in 2014, HFD is a joint initiative by Stifterverband, CHE Centre for Higher Education and the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK). It is sponsored by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
