Nine new Centres for Research-based Innovation launched
The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the independent research foundation SINTEF are the host institutions for 9 of the 17 new Centres for Research-based Innovation (SFI) awarded funding from the Research Council of Norway last year. The two Trondheim-based institutions recently opened the nine new centres formally.
A well-established, beneficial scheme
The new centres in Trondheim are part of the third generation of Norwegian SFIs. In all, the Research Council has allocated close to NOK 1.6 billion to the 17 new centres granted SFI status in the most recent funding round.
One objective of the centre scheme is to enhance the capability of the business sector to innovate by focusing on long-term research based on forging close alliances between enterprises and research groups.
