On 1 January 2011, a new Norwegian university was born: the University of Nordland (UiN). It is the eighth university for the country as a whole and the second in Northern Norway. The main campus is located in Bodø.
The new university has its roots in the former Bodø University College. It has
6.000 students and 600 employees, and serves as a key institution for education and research in Norway's northernmost region as well as throughout the entire country.
UiN consists of four faculties:
- Faculty of Social Sciences
- Faculty of Bioscience and Aquaculture
- Faculty of Professional Studies, and
- Bodø Graduate School of Business
The city of Bodø, with its wonderful surroundings. In addition to the main campus in Bodø, UiN also has teaching locations in Mo i Rana in southern Nordland County and Stokmarknes in the northernmost part of the county.
Focus on internationalisation
Internationalisation is being given high priority at UiN. The institution has worked to increase mobility among both students and staff in recent years, and participates in many exciting international projects.
The university is continually developing new English-language study programmes at the bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. levels, and currently has students from more than 40 countries. The institution has an international partner network that includes 90 institutions of higher education from around the world as well as several international networking organisations.
