Mit einer Reihe von Veranstaltungen in Indien haben Großbritannien und Indien die langjährige Forschungspartnerschaft gewürdigt und das neue Innovationsprogramm UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) India vorgestellt, das als Nachfolger des 2008 gegründeten Research Councils UK (RCUK) India Kooperationsprojekte der beiden Länder vorantreiben und koordinieren soll.
UKRI-Geschäftsführer Prof. Sir Mark Walport erklärte zur Fortsetzung der Forschungspartnerschaft: "The biggest challenges of our time, from climate change and energy provision to food security and eradicating poverty, are international and require an international effort to resolve. We continue to build on a strong history of research collaboration between the UK and India, one that harnesses the excellence of both nations to drive global progress. Partnerships such as this are key to the delivery of UKRI’s ambitious mission to push the frontiers of human knowledge and understanding, and to deliver economic, social and cultural benefit."
In den vergangenen zehn Jahren wurden umgerechnet mehr als 338 Mio. EUR in gemeinsame Forschungsprojekte der beiden Länder investiert. Damit ist Großbritannien Indiens zweitgrößter Kooperationspartner für Forschung und Innovation.
