As an independent administrative authority set up in 2007, the AERES Agence d’évaluation de la recherche et de l’enseignement supérieur is tasked with evaluating research and higher education institutions, research organisations, research units, higher education programmes and degrees and with approving their staff evaluation procedures.
In 2014, it was replaced by the HCERES Haut Conseil à l’évaluation de la recherche et de l’enseignement supérieur.
