In 2023, the government created the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to deliver UK's mission to be the most innovative economy in the world and a science and technology superpower. Quantum technologies are at the core of this mission, not only as one of our five priority technologies of tomorrow – quantum, AI, engineering biology, semiconductors, future telecoms – but also as a technology that could release the full potential of every other on that list.
The DSIT is more than doubling the investment into quantum by investing GBP 2.5 billion in quantum over the next ten years, with the aim of attracting significant additional private investment on top of that.
This ten year plan will fund new frontiers of quantum research, support and develop UK's growing quantum sector, prepare UK's wider economy for the quantum revolution and ensure that the UK leads internationally in the regulation and ethical use of quantum technologies.
