The Clean Steel Partnership (CSP) is a mechanism to pilot and demonstrate technologies up to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 8 that can reduce CO2 emissions stemming from EU steel. Aligned with the European Green Deal targets, the partnership supports EU leadership in transforming the steel industry into a carbon-neutral one, serving as a catalyser for other strategic sectors.
The objectives of CSP are to
- develop, upscale and roll out new technologies that could reduce CO2 emissions from EU steel production by 50% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels
- support the deployment of the decarbonisation technologies
- enable the coordination of technological progress in the use of steel scrap and by-products, leading to an enhanced, larger use of those resources
- support the preservation of high-quality jobs in the steel making value chain
CSP is a co-programmed Partnership under Horizon Europe.
