The Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM) Conference 2025 "Building bridges – shaping Europe’s science-for-policy landscape" takes place on 26-27 May 2025 in Vienna, Austria. The event will be of interest to science-for-policy practitioners and researchers, policymakers at all levels, and representatives of organisations that regularly interact with policy, especially academies. It will feature three main topics:
- Science advice in politics and society
- Designing better institutions
- Building skills and practices
The conference will also feature the side event "Shaping the European framework for science diplomacy: What is in it for science advice?". This side event is hosted by the EU Science Diplomacy Alliance and will present key recommendations of the working group on making European diplomacy more strategic, effective and resilient through scientific evidence and foresight. In an interactive world café looking at science advice to foreign and security policies in 2035, participants will have an opportunity to brainstorm, create and discuss different scenarios and explore a set of unexpected or extreme events and their potential impact on the future of science advice in Europe and beyond.
The SAM conference 2025 will be hosted by the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
