The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is a pan-African network of centres of excellence for post-graduate training, research and public engagement in mathematical sciences.
Its vision is to lead the transformation of Africa through innovative scientific training, technical advances and breakthrough discoveries which benefit the whole of society.
AIMS Research Centres are currently located in six African countries: South Africa (founded in 2003), Senegal (2011), Ghana (2012), Cameroon (2013), Tansania (2014) and Rwanda (2016) .The AIMS Next Einstein Initiative plans to launch 15 AIMS Research Centres across Africa. The Secretariat is based in Kigali, Rwanda.
Each AIMS research centre develops areas of specialization in collaboration with local government and university partners. These research agendas advance local capabilities and opportunities.
